IN THE MATTER OF PROCLAIMING RESOLUTION NO. 2008/622
SEPTEMBER 15 TO OCTOBER 15, 2008
AS "HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH"
BY HONORING LA CLINICA DE LA RAZA
WHEREAS, La C.linica de La Raza, Inc., was founded in 1971 by a group of volunteers including doctors,
conununity members,and students from the University of California at Berkeley; and
WHEREAS, La Clinica was founded to offer low-cost healthcare to residents who could not afford it; and
WHEREAS, La Clinica has expanded from its first clinic in Oakland to 23 clinics serving more than 44,000
patients at 23 sites in Alameda, Solano, and Contra.Costa counties including two medical clinics in
Pittsburg and Pleasant Hill; their dental clinic in Pittsburg and a Dental Care Mobile unit; and

WHEREAS, Hispanic Heutage`Month begins on September 15 2008- to commemorate the anniversary of

NOW, THEREFORE,,; BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of`'Superviso`rs` does hereby proclaim
September 15 to October 15 2008 a`s,;Hispanic Heritage Month in Contra Costa County, and calls on
citizens, county agen61e9,'scfioo1-districts and comm iniries,In Contra;Costa County use their resources
to highlight Flispanic individuals;and their contributions to%the county and to observe this month with
appropriate programs and activities iri conjunction Oirh the 36th Anniversary of La Clinica and its
October 25th Health Fair.
