FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no impact to the County General Fund. All costs will be covered by developer collected fees and Special District funds. (Developer Fees and Special District Funds) (All Districts) Project No.: Various DATE: September 23, 2008 PAGE: 2 of 2 REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS AND BACKGROUND: In March of 2006, Special Districts solicited Landscape Architects for on-call consulting services for Countywide projects, including inspection and design services. David Gates & Associates was awarded a contract to provide these services. Public Works required a professional landscape architectural firms to provide plan review, construction field inspections,ground and facilities inspections,design services,and other consulting services,on an as needed basis, related to landscape architecture primarily for areas to be annexed in to the Countywide LL-2 Landscape District or County Service Areas. Additionally, Public Works requires a firm to provide playground safety inspections, maintenance inspections, design work and similar services for Public Works department staff. David Gates & Associates currently provides this service to Public Works. Currently David Gates & Associates is involved in many projects with anticipated termination dates beyond the current contract. Active projects include Montalvin Park Play Structure replacement,Pacheco Boulevard Median Landscaping,Aspen Trail,Driftwood Drive Landscaping,Big Oak Tree Park and the Montalvin Park Soccer Field Renovation. As a result, fees associated with the completion of these projects will be above the current payment limit of the contract. In order to preserve the continuity of these projects,Public Works recommends that we extend the current contract by a year and increase the payment limit by$100,000. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Without Board approval, Special Districts will not be able to provide these services with the required level of expertise needed to ensure that the landscape areas are designed,constructed and maintained in accordance with the Public Works Department's Landscape Standards. Additionally,the project schedules may be jeopardized as well.
