CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
The Employment & Human Services Department Community Services Bureau supports
three of Contra Costa County's community outcomes - Outcome 1: "Children Ready
for and Succeeding in School," Outcome 3: "Families that are Economically Self-
sufficient," and, Outcome 4: "Families that are Safe, Stable, and Nurturing." These
outcomes are achieved by offering comprehensive services, including high quality early
childhood education, nutrition, and health services to low-income children throughout
Contra Costa County.
BACKGROUND:
On August 12, 2008 the Board accepted funding from the California Department of
Education (CDE) Child Development Program for augmentation of the State Preschool
Pre-Kindergarten Family Literacy via the provision of support services.
State Preschool Pre-Kindergarten Family Literacy services are provided to program
eligible residents via the County operated Children's Centers and through partnership
with community-based agencies. A contract with Starlight Academy III LLC to provide
Pre-Kindergarten Family Literacy services was approved by the Board on June 17,
2008. This board order provides a pass through of the above noted support services
funds to enhance the family literacy services.
