Slots are developed in non-profit and governmental organizations, with seniors receiving a training stipend as they learn new skills and upgrade existing skills. Placement in unsubsidized employment is the goal of the program to increasing opportunities for self sufficiency for this targeted senior population. With the changing County demographics of the baby boomer generation retirement, it is anticipated that programs including education and technical expertise will be essential in meeting the increased needs of older workers as they find themselves unprepared for a retirement that may last thirty (30) years beyond the customary retirement age. Statistics indicate that employment keeps individuals connected to their community and is a major contributing factor in ensuring better overall health and self esteem. The Workforce Development Board (WDB) continues to seek opportunities to expand services to this population.
