HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 08052008 - C.61 TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS Contra FROM: William Walker,M.D., Health Services Director Costa By: Jacqueline Pigg, Contracts Administrator y DATE: July 22, 2008 County �� :.- SUBJECT: Approval of Contract#24-429-42 with Ujima Family Recovery Services SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND JUSTIFICATION CA RECOMMENDATION(S): Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee (Haven Feam) to execute on behalf of the County, Contract#24-429-42 with Ujima Family Recovery Services, a non-profit corporation, in an amount not to exceed $1,752,437, to provide perinatal substance abuse treatment services for the period from July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009. FISCAL IMPACT: This Contract is funded 91% by Federal Perinatal Set-Aside and Medi-Cal, 8% by State Substance Abuse/Mental Health Services for CalWORKs (SAMHWorks), and 1%by Proposition 36—Offender Treatment Program(OTP). CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: This Alcohol and Drug Abuse program supports the Board of Supervisors' "Families that are Safe, Stable, and Nurturing" community outcome by providing parenting education, stability, and safety for mothers (and their children) and pregnant women who are alcohol and drug dependent, while they are in substance abuse treatment. Expected outcomes include delivery of drug-free babies, decreased use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, reduction in the number of relapses, and creation of a sober social network. BACKGROUND/REASON(S) FOR RECOMMENDATION(s): . This Contract meets the social needs of County's population in that it provides family-centered alcohol and drug treatment services to pregnant and parenting women, in order to prevent perinatal substance abuse and improve birth outcomes. On July 10, 2007, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract#24-429-39 (as amended by Contract Amendment Agreements#24-429-40 and#24-429-41) with Ujima Family Recovery Services, for the period from July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008, for the provision of perinatal intensive day treatment, residential recovery program, and transitional housing for women and OTP services. Approval of Contract#24-429-42 will allow the Contractor to continue providing services through June 30,2009.
