HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 08052008 - C.55 Z TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS ='p Contra FROM: William Walker, M.D., Health Services Director ' _ By: Jacqueline Pigg, Contracts Administrator i Costa DATE: July 22, 2008 Count SUBJECT: Approval of Contract#22-378-25 with Brighter Beginnings (formerly The Perinatal Council) SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION(S): Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee (Wendel Brunner, M.D.) to execute on behalf of the County, Contract #22-378-25 with Brighter Beginnings (formerly The Perinatal Council), a non-profit corporation, in an amount not to exceed $583,917 to continue to provide case management services for the Black Infant Health Project, for the period from July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009. FISCAL IMPACT: This Contract is funded 100% by the State Department of Health Services, Maternal and Child Health Branch, for the Black Infant Health Project. No County funds are required. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: This Maternal and Child Health Program supports the County's "Children and Youth Healthy and Preparing for Productive Adulthood" community outcome by providing outreach to encourage pregnant women to receive prenatal medical care and avoid behaviors that would increase the risk to their unborn children. Expected programs outcomes include a decrease in the number of babies being born with health problems requiring medical care. BACKGROUND/REASON(S) FOR RECOMMENDATION(S): The Black Infant Health Project was created to provide services mandated by the State Department of Health Services to develop a partnership for reducing the African-American infant morbidity and mortality rates. On September 18, 2007, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #22-378-24 with The Perinatal Council, (now known as Brighter Beginnings) for the period from July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008, for the provision of case management services for the Black Infant Health Project. Approval of Contract #22-378-25 will allow the Contractor to continue providing services through June 30, 2009.
