Early Literacy Station is a sturdy computer built especially for children's use and it offers forty developmentally
appropriate software programs, half in Spanish and half in English. These programs are highly rated by Chihh•ef7's
Technology Review and span seven curricular areas and target children ages two through eight. Due to the simple
design of the Station, children can use the machine with little or no assistance from adults, thus empowering
children to follow their own interests.
CONTRA COSTA CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT
Parents often bring their children into the Pittsburg Library and ask for educational games that children can play on
the library computers. At this point in time, staff can only provide suggested websites to them since the library's
public computers do not offer educational games. With the Advanced Workstations in Education, Inc. Early
Literacy Station, children can learn and practice basic computer proficiencies such as using a mouse and keyboard.
The preloaded educational software provides a safe environment in which children can engage in learning by
playing developmentally appropriate games From a variety of curricular areas. The addition of an Early Literacy
Station at the Pittsburg Library supports tile community outcome of Children Ready for and Succeeding in School.
