RECOMMENDATION:
ADOPT Position Adjustment Resolution number 20598 to add one (1) County Surveyor-Exempt (NAF1)
position; cancel one (1) Associate County Surveyor [NSHB-unrepresented] position number 1497 and abolish
Associate County Surveyor (NSHB-unrepresented) classification.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Upon approval, this action will result in an annual cost of$8,952.
BACKGROUND:
The Public Works Department has requested to add one County Surveyor-Exempt position and cancel one
Associate County Surveyor position #1497 due to the recent establishment of County Surveyor-Exempt
classification and Exempt appointment of James Stein as the County Surveyor effective July 9, 2008. The
classification of County Surveyor-Exempt was established and approved by B.O.S. number 20291 on April 1,
2008 without adding a position. This action will properly appoint and place the incumbent into an Exempt
position. In addition, the request to abolish Associate County Surveyor classification allows Public Works to
finalize planned departmental reorganization.

If this request is not approved, incumbent James Stein will not be assigned to the appropriate classification
and position number. Additionally, Public Works department will not be able to finalize current reorganization
efforts.

SOURCE OF FUNDING TO.OFFSET ADJUSTMENT. The position of County Surveyor is funded in the PW Department's FY08-
09 budget and was approved by BOS 04/01/08. This position utilizes .
12% General Funds and 88% Road Funds and Developer fees.
Overhead expenditures are reimbursed by many of the funds PWD
charges to and by outside agencies we provide service for.
Department must initiate necessary adjustment and submit to CAO.
