RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt Resolution Number 2008/ 6_76 regarding salary reallocations for the Advice Nurse Supervisor(VWHN)and Advice Nurse
Manager(VWHK)classifications.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The annual cost of$11,610.95 will be funded through Enterprise II fund and has been budgeted in fiscal year 2008/09.
BACKGROUND:
On March 24, 2008 Contra Costa County and CNA signed agreement(Proposal 29)to establish Advice Nurse II classification. Human
Resources identified salary compaction with two other classifications, Advice Nurse Supervisor and Advice Nurse Manager, as a result
of new classification. Salary increases for the impacted classifications is warranted in order to maintain appropriate salary differentials
among the classes.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this request is not approved, internal equity will be compromised.

SUBJECT: Adopt Salary Reallocations for Advice Nurse
Supervisor and Advice Nurse Manager
classifications in the Health Services
Department
THE CONTRA COSTA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS in its capacity as governing Board of the
County of Contra Costa and all districts of which it is ex-officio governing Board RESOLVES THAT:
I, Effective July 1, 2008, Contra Costa County will implement the following salary increases for the
classifications of:
Advice Nurse Supervisor(VWHN) 5.0% increase
Advice Nurse Manager(VWHK). 3.0% increase
II. Effective July 1, 2008 Contra Costa County will implement a 5% salary increase for the classification of
Advice Nurse Supervisor(VWHN).
In lieu of a retroactive pay increase, the County will make a "lump sum payment"to each Advice Nurse
Supervisor(VWHN) eligible employee, not including those who have retired or terminated, without back
. interest for the period of July 1,2008 through and including-July 31, 2008, computed as follows:
The employee's regular pay and hourly-based earnings, including overtime pay and other earnings
computed as a percentage of base pay, will be added together for each applicable pay period to determine
an appropriate pay base. This pay base will be multiplied by 5.0% (five percent).
The product of that calculation will be added to the employee's September 10, 2008 paycheck where it will
be listed separately as "Lump Sum Pay". The"lump sum pay" amount will then be included in the
calculation of the employee's required deductions such as taxes and retirement.
III. Effective July 1, 2008 Contra Costa County will implement a 3% salary increase for the classification of
Advice Nurse Manager(VWHK).
