SUBJECT: Approval of Sharing Agreement#26-346-11 with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(5)&BACKGROUND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION(S):
Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee (Jeff Smith, M.D.), to execute o behalf
of the County, Contract #26-346-11 (V261 S-0386), with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Northern
California Health Care System (VANCHCS), in an amount not to exceed $4,275,000 to provide nuclear
medicine services for the period from April 1, 2008' through March 31, 2011, including mutual
indemnification to hold harmless both parties for any claims arising out of the performance of this agreement.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This Contract is 100% funded in the Health Services Department's Enterprise I Budget. Under the terms of
the agreement, VANCHCS will continue to be paid a fee for each service in accordance with the fee schedule.

The services provided for the County's patients under this Contract are billable to patients and third party
payors.
BACKGROUND/REASON(S)FOR RECOMMENDATION(S):
For many years, the County and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs have maintained a mutual sharing
agreement, which has made available to the County specialized medical services not otherwise available due to
lack of resources, equipment, and personnel. These services included specialized laboratory testing, radiology
services, nuclear medicine studies, CT scans, MRI's, dermatology, gastroenterology, urology, audiology and
speech, and ophthalmology services. The County provided Emergency Room treatment and inpatient care,
including certain ancillary services.for VA-referred patients.
On September 19, 2006, the Board of Supervisors approved Sharing Agreements and Sharing Agreement
Amendments #26-346-8 through #26-346-10, with VANCHCS (under the auspices of the VANCIICS Nuclear
Regulatory Commission License) to provide a full range of Nuclear Medicine Services to County's patients at
