SUBJECT: Approval of Contract#74-054-11 with Asian Pacific Psychological Services
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND JUSTIFICATION
RECONTM EN'DATION(S):
Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee (Haven Fearn) to execute on behalf of the
County, Contract#74-054-11 with Asian Pacific Psychological Services, a non-profit corporation, in an amount not
to exceed $134,000, to provide youth, family, and community drug abuse prevention services in West County for the
period from July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009.
FISCAL IN-IPACT:
This Contract is funded 45% by Federal Primary Prevention, and 5510 by State Comprehensive Drug Court
Implementation Grant.
0111_DREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
This Alcohol and Drug Abuse prevention program supports the Board of Supervisors' "Families that are Safe,
Stable, and Nurturing" and "Communities that are Safe and Provide a High Quality of Life for Children and
Families" community outcomes by providing individual, group, and family counseling; substance abuse education;
rehabilitation support services; and substance abuse prevention services. Expected outcomes include increased
knowledge about the impact of addiction; decreased use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs; increased use of
community-based resources; and increased school and community support for youth and parents in recovery.
BACKGROUND/REASON(S) FORIZECONIMENDATION(s):
This Contract meets the social needs of County's population in that it provides specialized substance abuse
prevention programs so that addicted youth are provided an opportunity to prevent or recover from the effects
of alcohol or other drug use,become self sufficient, and return to their families as productive individuals.
On July 24, 2007, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract#74-054-9 (as amended by Contract Amendment
Agreement#74-054-10) with Asian Pacific Psychological Services for the period from July 1, 2007 through June
30, 2008, for the provision of youth, family, and community drug abuse prevention services in West County.
Approval of Contract#74-054-11 will allow the Contractor to continue providing services through June 30, 2009.
