The home visiting strategy provides strengths-based home visitation services for expectant parents and families with children birth to age three years. Services are for prenatal, first- time and multiple risk families. 90 % of home visiting services funded by the Commission target families living in neighborhoods in Bay Point, Pittsburg, Antioch, Concord, Richmond and San Pablo, areas where teen birth rates are high and babies are born with low birth weights. The remaining 10% focus on multiple risk factor families living outside the identified geographic areas. EHSD provides administration and coordination for a home visitation program with prevention and early intervention focus providing families with weekly home visitation services emphasizing infant bonding and nurturing child development, health education and medical care, and information and referral assistance for employment, housing, transportation and childcare. These services can provide appreciable reductions in child abuse and neglect, and other health and education concerns.
