SUBJECT: Position Adjustment Resolution # 20418
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION: Adopt Position Adjustment Resolution#20418 to increase the hours of one
Deputy District Attorney— Basic Level position (2KTF, Represented) from 20/40 to 40/40, and to
cancel one Deputy District Attorney— Basic Level position.
BACKGROUND: The Deputy District Attorney— Basic Level classification is the journey level
prosecutor position in the Deputy District Attorney extended-range deep class. As entry level Fixed
Term Deputy DA's seek to promote to the Basic Level and the volume of work in the District
Attorney's Office continues to increase, so does the need for positions requiring advanced,
specialized legal skills. Therefore, the District Attorney has requested to increase the hours of a
20/40 Deputy DA to 40/40, and to cancel one 20/40 Deputy DA position.
FISCAL IMPACT: These actions result in a cost savings of$5,898, due to the cancellation of the
existing 20/40 Deputy DA position.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: If this action is not approved, the Contra Costa County
District Attorney's Office will not achieve the cost savings necessary to increase the hours of an
existing attorney position. This could adversely affect the quality of work within the District Attorney's
Office and pose a potential threat to public safety of the citizens of Contra Costa County.
