DONNA POWERS FOR HER ENDURING VISION
AND LEADERSHIP ON BEHALF OF THE
ROSIE THE RIVETER WWII HOME FRONT .
NATIONAL HISTORICAL PARK
WHEREAS, Donna Powers' another-in-lav, Ruth Powers, was a teacher at the Richmond shipyards
daycare centers during World War II and her great aunt, Clarissa Hicks, was a riveter at
Douglas .Ai.rcraft in Tulsa, Oklahoma; and
WHEREAS, Donna Powers was inspired..;by.'th.e storics:::of Ruth and Clarissa to learn more about the
role of women in `x}(/.11; and::..
WHEREAS, Donna realized thousands of:wo'men across the country: were actively involved in the
war effort and deservcd'to. have their stories toldand thea experiences and accomplishments
honored; and
WHEREAS, lllonnq conceived of the idea of a inernorial honoring the war efforts of women, to be

WHEREAS, Donna.:founded and chaired the Rosie the .Riveter'Nfit inorial=,:Comrr ittee, which led
