Piepho and Contra Costa Television (CCTV). This PSA is an educational tool to encourage the public to consider shelter animals for adoption when considering a new family pet. The PSA will also highlight CCASD's services, such as low-cost spay/neuter clinic and programs, pet emergency preparedness fairs, and other human education presentations. BACKGROUND: The "Pet of the Week" PSA was originated by Supervisor Mary N. Piepho as a low-cost resource to highlight adoptable animals available at the CCASD shelters. By showcasing one or two adoptable animals per week on CCTV, the Contra Costa Animal Services Department will be seen in a countywide public forum that will introduce the Department, their services, and our new, modern facilities in Martinez and Pinole to a wider audience. Ultimately, more animals available for adoption will find caring and loving homes. FISCAL IMPACT: Total expenditures are unknown at this time; however, they are not expected to be significant. Possible purchase of video software by CCASD may be required by CCTV. Revenues are expected to increase with the media exposure through more adoptions, licenses, spay/neuter procedures, and potential donations, thereby offsetting upfront costs.
