Contra FROM: John Cullen, County Administrator Costa x z DATE: July 24, 2007 /\�\�o u n t 1 COST'S COUT:'(� V `/ SUBJECT: Lesher Foundation Grant SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION: APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the County Administrator's Office to submit an application and execute a grant award contract with the Lesher Foundation in the amount of $15,000 for Fiscal Year 07108 to fund the Zero Tolerance for Domestic Violence Initiative's professional development conference focused on children's exposure to domestic violence in Walnut Creek on October 5, 2007. FISCAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact on the county general fund. BACKGROUND:" The Safe and',Bright Futures project of the Zero Tolerance for Domestic Violence Initiative of Contra Costa County has been working since 2004 to develop a system-wide approach to better serve the needs of children impacted by domestic violence. With a planning grant from the Federal Department of Health and Human Services, over 20 public and private agencies and 200 community members participated in an extensive community assessment, education and training, and community planning. The conference will highlight important emerging practices for service providers, public agencies, and policymakers, as well as provide a venue to increased visibility and sponsorship of the project. The conference will be implemented by the Safe & Bright Partnership (a collaboration of public and private agencies). Community Violence Solutions, a non-profit agency dedicated to ending sexual assault and family violence, is serving as the fiscal agent for the event. Consequently, the grant funds will actually be deposited with Community Violence Solutions, for the benefit of the conference.
