SUBJECT: Stuart Foundation grant funding to support the Family to Family Initiative an the
implementation of Child Welfare Redesign strategies, including team decision
making, community partnerships, and peer technical assistance
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&°BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION:
APPROVE AND AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to apply for and
accept funding from the Stuart Foundation grant in an amount up to $300,000 to support the Family to Family
Initiative and implementation of Child Welfare Redesign strategies, including team decision making, community
partnerships and peer technical assistance for the period of July 1, 2007 through September 30, 2010.
FISCAL IMPACT:
County to receive up to $300,000 ($100,000 per grant year) from the Stuart Foundation Grant. No County
match.
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT;
The funding will support all of the community outcomes established in the Children's Report Card: (1): Children
Ready for and Succeeding in School"; (2) "Children and Youth Healthy and Preparing for Productive
Adulthood"; (3) " Families that are Economically Self Sufficient"; (4) " Families that are Safe, Stable and
Nurturing"; and, (5) " Communities that are Safe and Provide a High Quality of Life for Children and Families"
by providing assistance to promote family involvement and interaction.

BACKGROUND:
To deepen the impact of the Family to Family Initiative in California, the Initiative requires jurisdictions to
implement strategies to improve outcomes in four key areas: critical decision making regarding child safety;
child welfare agency accountability; increased community partnerships; and, improved outcomes experienced
by children in foster care.
