TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS ``�" �.._r 'F Contra FROM: William Walker, M.D. Health Services Director Costa By: Jacqueline Pigg, Contracts Administrator — �4 ° r'-�'s=��� DATE: September 6, 2006 '�a`" County SUBJECT: Approval of Sharing Agreement #26-424-8 with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Northern California Health Care Systems (VANCHCS) SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION (S): Approve and authorize the IIealth Services Director, or his designee.(Jeff Smith, M.D.), to execute on behalf of the County, Sharing Agreement #V261 S-6423, (County #26-424-8), with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Northern California Health Care System (VANCHCS), in an amount not to exceed $88.838, for the provision of Oncology services for patients referred for treatment by Contra Costa Regional Medical Center physicians, for the period from October 1, 2006 through September 30, 2007. FISCAL IMPACT: This Contract is funded in the Health Services Department's Enterprise I Budget. The services provided for the County's patients under this Contract are billable to patients and third party payors. BACKGROUND/.REASON(S) FOR RECOMMENDATION(S): For many years the County and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has maintained a mutual sharing agreement, which has made available to the County specialized medical services not otherwise available due to lack of resources, equipment, and personnel. These services included specialized laboratory testing, radiology services, nuclear medicine studies, CT scans, MRI's, dermatology, gastroenterology, urology, audiology and speech, and ophthalmology services. The County provided Emergency Room treatment and inpatient care, including certain ancillary services, for VA-referred patients. Under the terms of this Sharing Agreement #26-424-8, VANCHCS will continue to provide Oncology services, including physician services with 24 hours of on-call coverage, Tumor Board, and clinic support, to County's patients at the VA Outpatient Clinic in Martinez, through September 30, 2007. The Contract documents have always been prepared by the Veterans Administration.
