SUBJECT: Contract Amendment -Laboratory Corporation of America(aka LabCorp) C
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATIONS&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATIONS:
RATIFY purchase of services from Laboratory Corporation of America and AUTHORIZE the Auditor-
Controller to pay up to $2,000 outstanding balance for genetic parentage testing services provided to the Child
Support Services Department during the period July 1, 2005 through June 30, 2006 (100% State Funds-
Budgeted) (All Districts)
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The cost of this Contract is budgeted within the State's allocation to Child Support Services. There will be no
impact on the General Fund.
REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS/BACKGROUND:
The Department of Child Support Services is empowered to enter into contracts with private organizations, as
necessary, to carry out the responsibilities imposed by the State plan for securing support for children and
families.
Determination of paternity is a vital element in most child support obligation cases and DCSS has contracted
with LabCorp since July 1, 2001 for the required testing procedures necessary to fulfill this need. LabCorp
continues to be the solitary vendor to meet all of our requirements in this area, while being able to reduce their
cost to us in each of the past 3 years.
After processing one amendment, we realized that there are still additional expenses for the contract period
which exceed the estimated total expense and this amendment for $2,000 should be sufficient to allow payment
of all additional charges under the FY05/06 contract.
CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Failure to approve this request would restrict the Department of Child Support Services' ability to collect child
support for the children of Contra Costa County.
