RECOMMENDATION
ADOPT Resolution Number 2006/S70Ilowing merit step adjustments for the Board of Supervisors'
Assistant job classifications in the District III Board of Supervisor's Office effective September 1,
2006.
FISCAL IMPACT
The total annual cost associated with this Resolution is within the District III budget.
BACKGROUND
During the past several months, certain District III employees have performed in an exemplary
manner and assumed additional duties and responsibilities, some of which have exceed the
scope of their current positions and has enabled the District III office to operate below normal
staffing levels. There is a need to recognize the efforts of the work being performed by these
individuals and to appropriately compensate them. Merit step increases shall be provided to two
employees moving them on the merit step range from step one to step two in the Board of
Supervisors' Assistant - Specialist classification (position #2475), and from step two to step four
in the Board of Supervisors Assistant — General Secretary classification (position #11377).

for Board of Supervisors' Assistants )
THE CONTRA COSTA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS in its capacity as governing
Board of the County of Contra Costa and all districts of which it is ex-officio governing Board
RESOLVES THAT:
WHEREAS, the salary regulations state in part that, "Except as otherwise provided,
increments within range shall not be granted more frequently than once a year ...", and,
WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors' Assistant class is a "deep" class with multiple levels
with Board members having discretion in appointing staff at the various level; and,
WHEREAS, certain District III employees have performed in an exemplary manner and
assumed additional duties and responsibilities over the past several months, some of which
have exceed the scope of their current positions (position # 2475 and position # 11377) and
have enabled the District III office to operate below normal staffing levels; and,
WHEREAS, there is a need to recognize the efforts and work being performed by these
employees;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that merit step increases shall be provided to each of
these employees moving them on the merit step range for a Board of Supervisors' Assistant -
Specialist level from step one to step two (position #2475) and for a Board of Supervisors'
Assistant - General Secretary level from step two to step four (position #11377) effective
September 1, 2006.
