COOKTCounty T'9 � SUBJECT: CORRECT BOARD ACTION OF JUNE 27, 2006 (ITEM#C98) I SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)'&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION I RECOMMENDATION (S): CORRECT Board action of June 27, 2006 (Item C.98) authorizing the Community Services Director, or designee, to execute contract with First Baptist Head Start in the amount of$198,240 for state funded preschool services for the period of July 1, 2006 through June 30, 2007. Corrected amount for the contract is $142,732.80 with no change in the term of July 11, 2006 through June 30, 2007. I FINANCIAL IMPACT: 1 This contract is funded by the California Department of Education. Funding for this contract is included in the Department's 2006-07 budget. There is no net County cost to this contract. 1 I CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: The Community Services Department's Head Start program supports two of Contra Costa County's community, outcomes: "Children Ready for and Succeeding in School" and "Families that are Safe, Stable, and Nurturing". These outcomes are achieved by offering comprehensive services, including high quality early childhood education, nutrition, and health services to low-income children throughout Contra Costa County. I REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS/BACKGROUND: Contra Costa County receives funds from the California Department of Education to provide state preschool and center childcare services to program eligible county residents. The Department, in turn, contracts with a number of community-based organizations to provide preschool services to program eligible children and families in the County to supplement services already being provided by the Department at its 18 centers county-wide. The original board order had an incorrect payment limit which was based on information provided by program staff. Program managers had decided to reduce the number of days of service, but did not include that information in the originating contract request. This board order is to correct that error and change the payment limit to correspond to the appropriate number of days of service.
