HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 09122006 - C.59 TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS Contra _ -- FROM: JOE VALENTINE, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT - z Costa •co i _ ,�v,4�¢ DATE: SEPTEMBER 12, 2006 rTa``°U County SUBJECT: AUTHORIZATION TO EXECUTE AGREEMENT WITH FIRST FIVE CONTRA COSTA TO PROVIDE SCHOOL READINESS SERVICES Specific Request(s) or Recommendation(s) & Background and Justification I� RECOMMENDATION (S): APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Community Services Director, or designee, to execute and submit an agreement with First Five Contra Costa Children and Families Commission in an amount not to exceed $284,776 to coordinate and administer School Readiness services in Contra Costa CourlIty for the period of July 1, 2006 through June 30, 2007. (Budgeted, Grant funds) (District 1) FINANCIAL IMPACT: This contract is funded by First Five Contra Costa. It is included in the Department's 2006- 07 budget. There is no net County cost to this contract.- CHILDREN'S ontract.CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: The Community Services Department's child care program supports two of Contra Costa County's community outcomes: "Children Ready for and Succeeding in School" and "Families that are Safe, Stable and Nurturing." These outcomes are achieved by offering comprehensive services, including high quality early childhood education, nutrition, health, and social services, along with a strong parent involvement focus, to low-income children throughout Contra Costa County. The overall goal of the program is to bring about a greater degree of social competence.in preschool children from low-income families. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS/BACKGROUND: Approval of agreement 07-033 with First Five Contra Costa Children and Families will allow continuation of school readiness services to eligible children and families. Services will be provided to children and families who reside in the West Contra Costa school district to: (1) access quality preschool services, and (2) establish early childhood and transitional programs so that children entering kindergarten can do so at their optimal level.
