SUBJECT: Adopt P300 #20088 Z- SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION: ADOPT Position Adjustment Resolution No. 20088 to ADD three (3) Background Investigator II positions. ANNUAL & FISCAL IMPACT The total annual cost associated with this action is $ 281,259 from General Fund FY 2006-07. Added costs associated with the addition of these positions will be largely offset by reduced use of contract employees. BACKGROUND: This action is being requested by the Sheriff-Coroner to provide background investigative staff support to the Backgrounds Unit. The Unit currently has one full-time Background Investigator II and utilizes seven to eight contractual employees to perform background checks on both sworn and non- sworn civilians. Additionally, the County Administrator's Office has directed the department to begin limiting the need for continuing, on-going contracts for background investigation services performed. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGTIVE ACTION: Insufficient support staff to the Backgrounds Unit would impact the delivery of background investigative services.
