RESOLUTION HONORING CROCKE IT RESOLUTION 2006/ 484
UPON ITS 125TH ANNIVERSARYJAND THE
CROCKETT MUSEUM AT ITS 25TH BIRTHDAY
WHEREAS, In 1839 the area that became Crockett was Included in a land grant made to Theodora Soto.
Future California Supreme Court Justice, Joseph B Croci '-fi—epresented Soto through the legal steps
required to confirm the grant. For his legal}work, Crockett r'ecelved 1}800 acres of land; and

WHEREAS, In 1867 Thomas.Edwardshat the invitation of his friend°Joseph,G-fd6kett,relocated to the
Carquinez Strait to become Crockett g partner in the operation of a grain and cattle farm on the south shore of

the Strait. Tom and Mary Edwards; with thetr_fiye sons and one daughter, constructed a.house on an Indian
Mound on the shore of the Carquinez Strait. Still standing, and In use;the.tiouse is,rrLarko_6as an Historical

WHEREAS, In 1881;i,one,hundred twenty-five years ago, Edwards and John.#Loring Heald laid.out the town of
Crockett. Heald built a f6dridry to manufacture agricultural machinery includln;g machinery forwlneries.
Abraham DuBois St&fr began construction of a flour mill intended to be the worlds' largest,wt I h;today houses
the C & H Sugar Refinery; and A. 4
WHEREAS, In 1906; the California and Hawaiian Sugar Refnery, owned by the Hawaiian cane,growers,
began refining Pure Cane Sugar' In tie conyerted Starr Flour MITI building; and
WHEREAS, In 1981, as part of Crockett's Centennial.Ceiebration, the Crockett Historical M- useum was
opened and has continued receiving, preserving and displaying collections reflectihd theRhistory of the Crockett
community.
