HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 11061984 - T.1 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adopted this Order on November 6 , 1984 , by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Fanden , Schroder , McPeak, Torlakson NOES: None ABSENT: Supervisor Powers ABSTAIN: None SUBJECT: Smoking in the Workplace Policy Following adoption of a resolution proclaiming November 159 1984 as the Great American Smokeout day in Contra Costa County, Supervisor Sunne W. McPeak noted that the Contra Costa Health Coalition (of which she is president ) is urging business and industry to establish smoke-free locations in the workplace . She presented a "Model Policy for Smoking in the Workplace" that was developed as a result of a National Conference on Smoking or Health in November 1981 . She expressed belief that the model provided the basis for a policy for Contra Costa County, and therefore recommended that the model policy be adopted . ATTESTED: �LYr•�LL/ 6, /yx',s PHIL BATCHELOR, Clerk of the Board of Supervisors and County Administrator By � , Deputy ,2 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adopted this Order on November 6, 1984 , by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Fanden, Schroder, McPeak, Torlakson NOES: None ABSENT: Supervisor Powers ABSTAIN: None SUBJECT: Proclaiming Thursday, November 15, 1984, as the day of the Great American Smokeout in Contra Costa County WHEREAS, the Great American Smokeout is a light-hearted effort to encourage cigarette smokers to give up their habit for 24 hours on Thursday, November 15; and WHEREAS, many smokers have indicated a willingness to participate in this event; and WHEREAS, the hearth benefits of not smoking are substantiated and well known; and WHEREAS, there are additional civic benefits such as a reduction of the risks of accidental fire; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors joins the American Cancer Society in designating Thursday, November 15, 1984, as the day_of the Great American Smokeout in Contra Costa County, and in so doing urge all cigarette smokers in the community to demonstrate to themselves and their friends that they can do so if they wish. 1 hereby certify that this Is a true and correct copy of an action taken and entered on the minutes of the Board of Supervisors on the date shown.
