HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 08012006 - C.43 (2) TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS - "- Contra FROM: William Walker,M.D., Health Services Director g, Costa By: Jacqueline Pigg, Contracts Administrator DATE: July 19, 2006 County SUBJECT: Approval of Contract#24-513-32 with New Connections SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATIONS)&BACKGROUND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION(S): Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee (Haven Fearn) to execute on behalf of the County, Contract #24-513-32 with New Connections, a non-profit corporation, in an amount not to exceed $562,153, to provide substance abuse prevention, intervention and treatment services for the period from July 1, 2006 through June 30, 2007. FISCAL IMPACT: This Contract is funded 71%by Federal Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment (SAPT) Block Grant, and 29%by State Prop 36. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: This Alcohol and Drug Abuse prevention and treatment program supports the Board of Supervisors' "Families that are Safe, Stable, and Nurturing" and "Communities that are Safe and Provide a High Quality of Life for Children and Families" community outcomes by providing individual, group, and family counseling; substance abuse education; rehabilitation support services; and substance abuse prevention services. Expected outcomes include increased knowledge about the impact of addiction; decreased use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs; increased use of community-based resources; and increased school and community support for youth and parents in recovery. BACKGROUND/REASON(S) FOR RECOMMENDATION(S): This Contract meets the social needs of County's population in that it provides specialized substance abuse treatment and prevention programs so that addicted youth are provided an opportunity to prevent or recover from the effects of alcohol or other drug use, become self sufficient, and return to their families as productive individuals. On August 16, 2005, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #24-513-30 with New Connections for the period from July 1, 2005 through June 30, 2006, for the provision of drug abuse prevention and treatment services at Contractor's facilities. Approval of Contract #24-513-32 will allow the Contractor to continue providing services through June 30, 2007.
