12. ACKNOWLEDGE that all appointees serve at the discretion of the ward of Supervisors at the
recommendation of the appointing Supervisor.
13. REQUEST the County Service Area R-7A Advisory Committee to provide a status report to the District
Supervisors office quarterly, covering their activities since their last report submitted to the Supervisor's
office.
BACKGROUND/REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS
Upon entering office, I have had the opportunity to witness how county advisory bodies operate within my
district and have been able to see strengths and weaknesses in how county advisory bodies operate. It is
important that we stress that county advisory bodies serve in an advisory capacity to the Board of Supervisors
and that their memberships serve at the will of the County Supervisor.
With regard to District 1H, on August 2, 2005, 1 notified members of the County Service Area R-7A Advisory
Committee, that my office was terminating the current appointments to the board and encouraged all members
to re-apply in an effort to increase community participation. On August 16, 2005, the Board of Supervisors
voted unanimously by a vote of 5-0 to terminate their appointments.
In an effort to achieve the most equitable outcome for the residents of Alamo, I have restructured County
Service R7A to provide a structure that is has been lacking. With this new structure in place, this board will be
able to function more effectively for the residents it serves.
