RESOLUTION HONORING RESOLUTION NO. 200S/49S
350 YEARS OF JEWISH LIFE
IN AMERICA
WHEREAS, the 350th Anniversary of Jewish Life in America is in celebration throughout the U.S.
in 2005. The story of Jewish accomplishments in America started with the arrival of 23 Jews
arriving in New York City from Recife,-4razil in 165,

American society allowed the Jewish community to not,,only maintain its rich history, religion',
traditions and culture, but also to `
strte and realize eery individual's potential; and
WHEREAS, the Middle-,-144, st Information Center of Rossmoor(M.El in Walnut Creek
California, along with the congressionally recognized Commission for Coxnnn orating 350 Years
of American Jewish story,joins this tribute; and
WHEREAS this celebration offers insight into the intricacies of the American Jewish experience

which conveys the values of freedom that have come to exem lif the ideals of rneri.;a; and

WHEREAS ;:Jewish Americans consider America to be the most welcoming home outside of Israel

and valuq the development of a strong and vibrant Jewish population in the United States and in
Israel through the promotion of partnerships with other communities,
NOWT TIJWEFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Conti_ Costa
County does hereby recognize the 350thAnniversary of Jewish Life in America and commends the
Jewish comxnihnity for maintaining its history and culture since 1654, while continuing to embody
the promise of America.
