SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
1. Recommended Action:
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Public Works Director, or designee, to execute a contract
amendment with David Gates and Associates effective July 6, 2004, to increase the payment
limit by $10,000 to a new payment limit of $85,000 for ongoing landscape architectural
services for the Parker Avenue Reconstruction Project, Rodeo area.
I1. Financial lmpact:
There will be no financial impact to the General Fund. The estimated contract cost is $85,000
funded by the Redevelopment Agency.

111. Reasons for Recommendations and Background:
David Gates and Associates are currently providing landscape architectural services for the
Parker Avenue Reconstruction and Landscape improvements project, Rodeo area. This
revitalization project, anticipated for construction in Summer 2005, is part of the 1097 Rodeo
Downtown/Waterfront Specific Pian that outlined the provision of streetscape improvements
(decorative street lighting and landscaping) as the initial step in revitalizing the downtown area.
Extensive coordination and subsequent redesign are necessary due to changing underground
utility requirements (Parker Avenue Utility Undergrounding Project, 0676-6P1056-03).
Specifically, this contract amendment will provide design services for the pedestrian and
landscape accent streetlighting required along the project limits as described in the Rodeo
Specific Plan.
IV. Consequences of Negative Action:
If the contract amendment is not approved with David Gates and Associates, the project
cannot be completed in a timely manner.
