WHEREAS, Iris Landis was born in Atlanta,Kansas,on August 17, 1904; and
WHEREAS, Iris was raised in Ponca City,Oklahoma, the oldest of four children, and attended the University of
Oklahoma; and
WHEREAS, Iris moved to California and married V. William Hart in Santa Barbara in 1928; and
WHEREAS, his was the secretary to several prominent doctors in Pasadena before her son,William Jr., was
born in 1936; and
WHEREAS, Iris then began her career in hotel management at the Vista del Arroyo before moving to The
Fairmont in San Francisco;and
WHEREAS, after WWII, she returned to Santa Barbara to raise her son; and
WHEREAS, Iris then moved to the University of California,Berkeley, where she was a secretary; and
WHEREAS, she retired in 1970 and moved to lbloraga where she became an active member of the Moraga
Hacienda Seniors.
WHEREAS, Iris is the proud grandmother of three and great-grandmother of two.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE [T RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County hereby

WHEREAS, Bishop Williamson, Sr. is the 52"'Bishop of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church., elected
on July 3, 2002 at the General Conference and assigned the Presiding Prelate of the Ninth Episcopal
District which includes five regions and over 100 churches on the West Coast;and
WHEREAS, Bishop Williamson graduated fMfii the. bistotic.,, Roosevelt High School in Gary, Indiana,
received a B.A. in Sociology from'I'urdtte=Univ rsity> reeived,,a Master of Divinity from Garrett-
Evangelical Theological Seminary with` advanced work in Clihical Pastoral Education, and was
awarded an honorary Doctor Of Divinity degree-from Unite. Thlogic l`. eminarv; and
WHEREAS,Bishop Williamson was associate pastor of St. Paul CME Church under tyle leadership of Bishop
Dotcy 1, IsomJr., and as,a pastor of Carter Temple'GIME.Church in hioa n for 16 years, led the
growing congregation of over 3,000 active members; and
WHEREAS;.Bishop Williamson served as the National President ofr, SH or the Peo'le United to Serve
Hutrnanity from'1991 to 1993, helping to stabilize the organizattott fttxcially and continues to work
with Reverend Jesse Jackson on the National Board of Rainbow/Pt1, F
