MEDIA ARTISTS, THE GALLERY CONCORD, AND THE CALIFORNIA WATERCOLOR ASSOCIATION RESOLUTION NO. 2004/400 WHEREAS, Contra Costa County recognizes art passages: collections of art from contra costa county as an exhibition program designed to create an opportunity for artists to show their work to a larger public, to support the larger community's awareness of and familiarity with County artists,and to form relationships with regional art organizations and to attract potential buyers for County artists' work; and WHEREAS,watercolor artists residing in District IV who are members of the California Watercolor Association (CWA) including Ruth Beeve, Lorraine Botsford, Linda Brock,Angela Cheng, Ruby Chow, Ruth Collins, Joseph Good, Donna Herriman, Pamela Howett, Suzanne Jehlik, Carol Jurasin,Julie Limberg, Erin McAdam-Austin, Forest McMillin, Ruth McMillin,Jeanne Meaker, Leonor Millan, Pam Miller,Tina Nelson, Shirley Nootbaar, Charlotte Panton, Maryellen Reinthaler, Shirley Rencher-Miller, Mona Rivers-Vasquez, Marjorie Rolandelli, Debbie Sawin, Kriss Schick, Shriley Schrank, Anne M. Stark, Patricia Strout, Betty Turnquist,Julie Van Wyk,Judi Visscher,Janet Walton, Heide Wong, Wayne White and Barbara Wigren are participating in the in the Arts and Culture Commission of Contra Costa County(ACS) sponsored art passages district 4 exhibition,fluid Expressions. The Vision of District 4 Water Mediu Artists;and WHEREAS, The California Watercolor Association (CWA), as the largest regional water media organization in California, dedicates its resources to the artistic growth of young artists, providing student scholarship funds, annual art exhibitions in different high school districts, outreach programs to schools that stimulate the growth of art and bring art materials into classrooms, and providing merchandise and cash awards or gift certificates to deserving students or art community projects, as well as presenting annual achievement cash awards for students at state and county fairs;and WHEREAS,The CWA holds approximately twelve juried exhibitions including the National Annual Exhibition,open to all water media artists in the United States and Canada, publishes an informative newsletter each month, provides numerous programs and workshops with nationally renowned artists, and has an extensive and up-to- date video library containing varied techniques by many well-known artists;and WHEREAS, Members of the CWA manage and staff the Gallery Concord in the former Masonic Temple at 1765 Galindo Street in Concord, showcasing a wide variety of water media paintings and featuring the work of a different sculptor each month;and WHEREAS, Gallery Concord promotes the visual arts within the greater Concord community by staging regular exhibitions, periodically furnishing educational programs to schools and the public, and providing an opportunity for local artists to display art in juried shows and network with gallery visitors,encouraging free visits by school children to the gallery. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does hereby declare the above artists and arts organizations treasures of our county and region, and urges residents to continue to support the artistic and creative endeavors of these individuals and organizations.
