RESOLUTION DECLARING FIFTEEN RESOLUTION NO. 2003/465
CONTRA COS'T'A COUNTY STUDENTS
AS CALIFORNIA ARTS'SCHOLARS d,
WHEREAS, Centra Costa County recognizes the contributions of The Arts and Culture Commission in
advancing the arts in ways that promote.communication, education,appreciation and collaboration throughout Contra
Costa County, including the honoring of students of exemplary artistic achievement; and
WHEREAS,the California State Summer School for the Arts (CSSSA)was established to help prepare
talented high school students for careers in the arts and entertainment industries; and
WHEREAS, more than 7,300 young California artists,who represent the diversity of California, have
benefited from the unique experience of participating in this intensive arts training program;and
WHEREAS, Union Sank of California, including the local branch in Martinez, have supported efforts to
make this year's program a success and accessible to all talented and deserving students; and
WHEREAS,the 17th CSSSA program is providing valuable opportunities for students to interact with
distinguished faculty members in a month-long residential program hosted at the California Institute for the Arts; and
WHEREAS, California Arts Scholar Day honors the distinguished high school students who have been
awarded the California Arts Scholars Medallion and selected to participate in the 2003 California State Summer School
for the Arts program; and
WHEREAS,the California Arts Scholars from Contra Costa County, listed by name, city, high school and
artistic discipline, include, Natasha Arora, Walnut Creek, Northgate High School, Creative Writing; Kirby Barajas, EI
Cerrito, Berkeley High School,Visual Arts; Amanda Berkson-Brand,Walnut Creek Northgate High School, Creative
Writing; Enzo Cellucci,Alamo, Monte Vista High School,Theatre; Christopher Fortin, EI Cerrito, EI Cerrito High
School,Animation; Leslie Fraser, Pinole, St. Mary's College High School, Dance; Kimberly Hidalgo,Walnut Creek,
Northgate High School, Music Vocal; Stephanie Jamieson, Concord, Northgate High School, Dance; Ethan Kirschbaum,
C3rinda, Miramonte High School, Dance; Clarence Lewis IV, Antioch,San Francisco School of the Arts,Theatre;
Christopher Liem, Lafayette, De La Salle High School,Visual Arts; Grace Menary-Winefield, Orinda, Miramonte High
School, Theatre;Jasmine Hart Poindexter, EI Sobrante, De Anza High School,Visual Arts; Meredith Spencer, Concord,
College Park High School, Creative Writing;Jenefer Taylor, C irinda, Bentley High School, Theatre.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa
County does hereby declare that the above fifteen students are California Arts Scholars, and urges residents to continue
to support the artistic endeavors and careers of these students.

RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND RESOLUTION NO 2003/514
HONORING THE 43RD ANNEXAL CONTRA
COSTA COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP SWIM MEET
WHEREAS, on August 16 atd 17, 2003 Contra Costa County will hold it's annual championship swim meet
at the Steve Heaston Aquatic Center at Acalanes High School in Lafayette, and

WHEREAS,the County Meet brings together all the top swimmers from.the County's recreational Swim
Clubs. It is one of the largest recreational swim meets in the nation, with over 1,500 swimmers from over 65
teams competing; and
WHEREAS, each swimmer must beat a challenging time to qualify to swim in an individual event. It is an
honor for swimmers to become eligible to swim in this meet; and
WHEREAS, the former Contra Costa County Meet swimmers include Olympians Peter Rocca,Karen Moe
Thornton, Marr.Spitz,Brian Goodell, Matt Biondi, and Olympic Nater polo Team Member Ed Klass.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County is proud
to congratulateall of the swimmers and volunteers who make the 43rd Annual Contra Costa County
Championship Swim Meet so successful.

HONORING ROSENBL UM CELLARS
AND CARLA'S VINEYARDS FOR
RECEIVING THE BEST OF SHOW
AT THE 2003 CALIFORNIA STATE FAIR
FINE COMPETITION
WHEREAS, the Rosenblum Cellars 2001 Zinfandel from Carla's Vineyards in
Contra Costa County earned the prestigious.Best of Show from the California State Fair Wine
Competition announced on July 22, 2003; and
WHEREAS, the 2001 Carla's Vineyards Zinfandel from Rosenblum Cellars also won
a Double Gold Medal, .Best Zinfandel in California, .Best Zinfandel of the Greater Bay Region
and tied for Best Wine of the Greater.Bay Appellation with another Rosenblum Cellars'wine,
the 2001 Continente Vineyard Mourvedre; and
WHEREAS, Carla's Vineyard is located in Contra Costa County and is run by.Diablo
Vista Vineyards awned by.Dwight Meadows and his son Aaron, and named after Carla
Meadows, who with her husband have led the fight to keep the historic vineyard from becoming a
shopping center, and
WHEREAS, Carla's Vineyards vines are over 100 years old and were planted during
a pre prohibition era when Zinfandel was the grape of choice in the new West for European
immigrants who wanted to make wine, which they had enjoyed in their homelands; and
WHEREAS, the dedication exhibited by Meadows family and Rosenblum Cellars
exemplifies the highest ideals of historic and historical aspects of the California winemaking
industry.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the.Board of Supervisors of Contra
Costa County, hereby urges all citizens to join with us in extending congratulations on the
receipt of the Best Show at the California State Fair Wine Competition and many other
distinguished awards bestowed upon Rosenblum Cellars and Carla's Vineyard
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 12th day of August,
