On September 11, 2002 the following Cities and Unincorporated areas of District V will be holding Commemoration Ceremonies to pay tribute to the memory of those who lost their lives in the September 11, 2001 tragedy; to honor and comfort those who have suffered great and disastrous loss, and express their heartfelt support and gratitude to those involved in the rescue and clean-up efforts. - City of Antioch "An American Tribute" Luncheon to be held at Humphrey's on the Delta at 11:30 a.m. - City of Pittsburg United Veterans Council "Patriot Day Memorial Service"to be held at Stoneman Veterans Memorial at 12:00 noon. - City of Oakley "Local Heroes Barbecue" and naming of "Patriot Park" to be held at Patriot Park at 6:00 p.m. - Bay Point Recognition to be held at Ambrose Community Center at 7:00 p.m. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: On the morning of September 11, 2002, terrorists hijacked four civilian aircraft, crashing two of them into the twin towers of the World trade Center in New York City, a third into the Pentagon outside Washington, D.C. and a fourth crashed in southwestern Pennsylvania after passengers tried to take control of the aircraft in order to prevent the hijackers from crashing the aircraft into an important symbol of democracy and freedom. These attacks were by far the deadliest terrorist attacks ever launched against the United States, killing thousands of innocent people. In the aftermath of the attacks the people of the United States stood united in providing support for those in need.
