Time Required Desciptim of Work:
The incumbent, without direct supervision performs complex activities to insure
all legal process is within the requirements of the Civil Code of Procedures.
Researches required procedures, plans, organizes, assigns and controls various
tasks of the Civil Bureau.
/47 SUPERVISION
Supervision of two Intermediate Typist Clerks and one temporary clerk. Coordinates
work flow and required separation of duties in the handling of legal process and
monies received. Instruct personnel in procedures and preparation of legal
documents. Reviews clerical processing of civil documents issued by the courts of
the State of California, those from other states and non-court process. Instruct
and assist deputies in civil procedures. Evaluate performance and make
recommendations for increments. Discuss disciplinary and morale problems with
employees.
_TECHNICAL
Reviews all legal process received by the Sheriffs Civil Bureau to determine
adequacy of fees, instructions, legal sufficiency and jurisdiction and interprets
$ d various court orders including Federal Bankruptcy and Probate Courts. Assigns
files for service, prepares or supervises preparation of index cards, ledgers
and receipting of advance deposit of funds for service. Posts deposits to ledgers
and prepares legal process for service by deputies. Makes or supervises return
of service on process. Opens daily mail, segregates inquiries, payments of
garnishments, additional fees, additional instructions, releases, Answers of
Garnishees, personal service process, Writs of Execution and/or Attachments,
Writs of Habeas Corpus, Writs of Sale, Bench Warrants, foreign process, Claim
and Delivery, various Orders of processes supplemental to the above. Processes
Claims of Exemption, Third Party Claims, releases and or modifications, prepares
sale notices for posting or publication, Certificates of Sale, deeds on real
property , recording of documents, postponement of sales. Handles complex liens
under Writ of Attachment on real property and/or personal property, levy and
sell real or personal property under Writ of Execution, sell real property under
Writ of Sale (Foreclosures), levy on wages, bank accounts, businesses, stocks,
interests in estates, vehicles and boats. Answers correspondence, compose and
type letters to parties involved with actions received. Figures all legal time
limits on all the above process and takes mandated action.
In determining exactness of required legal procedures researches the Civil Code
of Procedure, Sheriff's Manual and Marshal's Manual. Attended Sheriff's and
Marshal's Civil Seminars for instruction in new or changed legislation and
procedures and discussion of problem areas.
�j PUBLIC CONTACT
Assists the public and members of the legal profession by discussing new or in
progress actions with attorneys, landlords and tenants, Plaintiffs, Defendants,
keepers, Court personnel, Bankruptcy Courts or Trustees, Recorder's and Assessor's
personnel on real property, newspaper personnel regarding legal publications,
Third Party Claiments, Executors of an Estate and van and storage companies.
Assists or intervenes in situations involving irrate or distraught citizens
when a subordinate is unable to control the situation.
ACCOUNT CLERK II DESK
Basic working knowledge of accounting desk as to receipting, posting and
preparation of daily deposit in the absence of the Account Clerk. Post
ledgers for all new legal process.
TIME KEEPING
Prepare time sheets for Bureau personnel, maintain records of overtime, use of
sick leave and vaction. Maintain and prepare required paper work for deputies
Safe Driving Awards.

Probably understates the amount of expertise, knowledge and experience necessary to perform the
tasks assigned. Barbara is recognized as an expert by this office and many law offices and has
a tremendous ability to interpret law and apply that tp legal process.

To receive, review and prepare all Civil process on behalf of the Sheriff and to insure legal
sufficiency to prevent suits against the Sheriff and County. The function requires intervention
between opposing attorneys both of which are quick to bring action against the Sheriff for
