Dear Board Members,
I wish to advise you that the 2002-2003 County assessment roll has been delivered to the County
Auditor, as required by law.
The increase in the local tax base for 2002-2003 is over $7 billion which brings the total local
assessment roll to$100,700,000,000.This is the first time in the history of Contra Costa County that
the Assessment Roll has exceeded $100 billion.
The top three cities in assessed valuation are the same as last year-Walnut Creek,Concord,and
Richmond,first, second and third respectively. San Ramon is a close 41h and may soon surpass
Richmond in total assessed value. Growth continues in East County with Brentwood leading the
way with a 29%increase in assessed value over last year and a total of 58%increase in value over
the last two years.
The County Assessment Roll now consists of 330,162 parcels, an increase of 5,235 parcels over
the previous year and 49,516 unsecured property accounts which include 26,118 assessable boats
and 521 aircraft.
Residential and Commercial new construction remains strong. During the past year,we processed
over 61,000 recorded documents affecting property ownership.
I would like to acknowledge and commend the staff in my office for their continuing dedication
and hard work,which resulted in completion and delivery of this assessment roll on a timely basis.
