SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDED ACTION: APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to EXECUTE five contracts totaling $684,000 with the community-based organizations listed below for FPSP services for the period from September 1, 2001 through August 31, 2002. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: The Family Preservation and Support Program supports all five community outcomes: 1) "Children Ready for and Succeeding in School"; 2)"Children and Youth Healthy and Preparing for Productive Adulthood"; 3)"Families that are Economically Self-Sufficient"; 4)"Families that are Safe, Stable and Nurturing"; and 5) "Communities that are Safe and Provide a High Quality of Life for Children and Families." FPSP provides community-based services that strengthen families and communities and prevent child abuse and neglect. BACKGROUND: The Board recently approved contract amendments with the above-mentioned community based organizations for FY 2000-01 on July 24, 2001. For FY 2001-02, FPSP will serve more than 1,000 county residents in areas with the highest levels of poverty, unemployment and child abuse and neglect will receive a variety of services in multiple languages. FPSP is designed to support families and prevent entry into the child welfare system. EHSD allocates its Family Preservation and Support Program funds to the FPSP program in the Coronado (Richmond), North Richmond, Bay Point and Parkside (Pittsburg) communities.
