HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 09182001 - C.44 TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS _ FROM: --� In _ - -`:;�.;• William Walker, M.D. , Health Services Director -`, :' - Contra By: Ginger Marieiro, Contracts Administrator Costa DATE: September 5, 2001 �co.;�. �'� •~C y�ounty SUBJECT: f Approval of Contract #22-378-17 with East Bay Perinatal Council SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION(S) : Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee (Wendel Brunner, M.D. ) to execute on behalf of the County, Contract #22-378-17 with East Bay Perinatal Council, in an amount not to exceed $514 , 800, to provide case management services for the Black Infant Health Project, for the period from July 1, 2001 through June 30, 2002 . FISCAL IMPACT: This Contract is funded 100% by the State Department of Health Services, Maternal and Child Health Branch, for the Black Infant Health Project . No County funds are required. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: This Maternal and Child Health Program supports the County' s "Children and Youth Healthy and Preparing for Productive Adulthood" community outcome by providing outreach to encourage pregnant women to receive prenatal medical care and avoid behaviors that would increase the risk to their unborn children. Expected programs outcomes include a decrease in the number of babies being born with health problems requiring medical care . BACKGROUND/REASON(S) FOR RECOMMENDATION(S) : The Black Infant Health Project was created to provide services mandated by the State Department of Health Services to develop a partnership for reducing the African-American infant morbidity and mortality rates . This Project meets the social needs of County' s population by providing case management services to African-American pregnant and/or parenting women and their infants in West County. On October 3 , 2000, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #22-378-15 (as amended by Contract Amendment Agreement #22-378-16) with East Bay Perinatal Council, for the period from July 1, 2000 through June 30 , 2001 . Approval of Contract #22-378-17 will allow the Contractor to continue providing services through June 30, 2002 .
