V 11 Auditor-Controller JOHN SWEETEN,CLERK OF JSPAC THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS County Probation Officer AND COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR BY EPUTY FISCAL IMPACT: SafeFutures is nearing the end of its fifth and final year of operations. Over the course of the past five years, there have been savings that the County was able to carry over to subsequent years. The contract addition proposed here can is funded through these carryover funds. There is no cost to the County BACKGROUND: Opportunity West is a community-based non-profit organization that has been providing employment counseling and placements for SafeFutures client youth, most of whom are or have been active gang members in West County. The augmentation proposed here would allow us to fully fund a new set of youth jobs through September 2001, in the North Richmond Painting Project. There are currently five youth employed in the project. This project, developed in conjunction with Weed and Seed and HUD, includes pre- apprenticeship training and supervised employment in painting the homes of low-income seniors in unincorporated areas of North Richmond. This project has already received favorable coverage in the Contra Costa Times. The augmentation would increase the contract payment limit with Opportunity West from $90,000 to $102,000.
