HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 09182001 - C.12 Adopted this Resolution on September 18, 2001, by the following vote:
Resolution No. 2001/424
Subject: In Recognition & Honor of the AT&T Mt. Diablo Radio Repeater Facility
WHEREAS, this facility was originally constructed in 1949, and additional facilities
were added in 1965. The site was in use until approximately two years ago, as digital
fiber optic technology replaced the analog technology that the tower facility supported.
WHEREAS, the tower itself was approximately 100 feet in height. The tower received,
amplified and transmitted a telephone call to the next radio repeater facility, built within
the line of sight. This technology was capable of receiving and transmitting 54,000 long
distance calls simultaneously. However, modern digital technology is capable of
transmitting millions of simultaneous phone calls.
WHEREAS, the intent of the demolition is to return the site to a condition as close as
possible to its original pristine condition, with no material remaining on the land that
gives any indication of its use by AT&T.
WHEREAS, the completion of this demolition will allow AT&T to terminate the property
lease and to release the easement for the power line and all other easements in place.
The demolition of this facility included the complete dismantling of the tower, removal of
equipment, and complete site restoration, including the planting of native plants and
trees. AT&T worked closely with the State Department of Parks and Recreation to
ensure that the work was acceptable and met the guidelines.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa
County commends and thanks AT&T for demonstrating corporate responsibility for the
environment and Mt. Diablo.
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board of Supervisors members present of this 18tn
day of September 2001.
