A review of your record indicated no less than six(6) absences from full Commission meetings and two (2) absences from subcommittees. Article IV, Section E of the Commission By-laws clearly states that "should a commissioner miss two meetings or functions (luring the year without prior excuse or have a total of five excused or une-rcused absences from meetings of- functions rfunctions dunng a one-year period, the Commission may recommend to the Board of Supervisors that the member's appointment be terminated." The Appointments Committee is thusly faced with the difficult decision of whether to petition the Board of Supervisors to terminate your appointment We are of course hesitant to seek the removal of any valued member of the Commission. Nevertheless,neither the Commission nor the youth of this County are served when the Commission is left short-handed because Commissioners fail to fulfill their commitments. We would urge you and your family to consider carefully the following questions as you determine whether you are able to continue your commitment as a member of the Commission. Are you still interested in maintaining a commitment with the Commission and the youth of your constituency? Do other activities in which you participate in preclude the fulfillment of that commitment? Are you able to secure transportation to Commission functions,or ask for :r,,Btance when needed? Are there other factors which would affect your ability to fulfill that commitment to the Commission? Prior to taking action,the Committee would invite your input on the matter. We invite your attendance at our next meeting at ):30 PM on August 8, 2001 at the Summit Center in Martinez (see attached). You ase also welcome to Submit comments in writing or via email. Please contact myself or Commission staff with your intention to appear before the Committee,or submit your written comments,no later than August 5,2001. The Committec will give scrious consideration to your input during its deliberations as to a course of action, and we ask that you give a corresponding level of consideration in formulating your comments.
