HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 09112001 - C.34 ,e2 (e2 2 2 In the Matter of Resolution No. 2001/420 RECOGNIZING THE OBSERVANCE OF THE DEDICATION TO THE MEMORY OF TAYLOR DAVIS WHEREAS, Taylor Davis had served the community of Pittsburg his whole life in numerous capacities, including 25 years as the first African American police officer,for the Pittsburg Police Department and nearly 12 years as a City Council member including three terms as Mayor; and WHEREAS, these years of service have been marked by exemplary dedication to the best interests of the community as he worked constantly for the betterment of its economic, cultural and aesthetic development; in particular, Taylor Davis was instrumental in developing the plans for the City's new Civic Center to serve all the citizens of Pittsburg in one location; and WHEREAS, he earned the admiration and high regard of those with whom he had come into contact, and the affection of hisfellow public .servants and citizens of Pittsburg, who were proud to call him 'friend"; and WHEREAS, Mr. Davis was blessed in life with one son and one daughter,four grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several youth oj'Pittsburg who became Amily by his love and devotion and who received the kind of happy home life and carefid training that develops good citizens and worthy adults; and WHEREAS, on September 15, 2001 the City of Pittsburg will dedicate the Pittsburg Police Department facility in the memory of Taylor Davis for the everlasting graduate of a gratejid community; and WHEREAS, this magnificent structure will cause an unquestioned impact upon, and become a tremendous asset to the development of the community, as did Taylor Davis. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County, hereby invites all citizens to attend the dedication .services recognizing a project.for which Taylor Davis worked and in which we can all share with a great deal of pride.
