SUBJECT: APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to:
(1) AMEND contract # 21-281-10 with Ms. Patricia Contaxis, increasing the contract payment
limit by $1200; AND
(2) EXECUTE a contract with Ms. Contaxis in the amount of$30,000 for instruction and
coordination for the Foster Pride/Adopt Pride Training Project for the period from August
1, 2001 through July 31, 2002 (#21-281-12).
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to:
(() AMEND contract #21-281-10 with Ms. Patricia Contaxis, increasing the contract payment limit by
$1200; AND
(Z) EXECUTE a contract with Ms. Contaxis in the amount of$30,000 for instruction and coordination
for the Foster Pride/Adopt Pride Training Project for the period from August 1, 2001 through July
31, 2002 (#21-281-12).
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
$31,200 Foster Parent Training/Recruitment: No County Cost; 25% State (AB 2129); 75% Federal (Title 1V E.).
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT*
This contract supports three Contra Costa County community outcomes: "Children and Youth Healthy and
Preparing for Productive Adulthood"; "Families that are Safe, Stable and Nurturing"; and, "Communities that
are Safe and Provide a High Quality of Life for Children and Families." Through enhanced education and
training, foster and adoptive parents can better assist children and help them to understand the reasons for their
out-of-home placement.

The Board most recently approved a contract with Ms. Contaxis on June 20, 2000 (c. 95). The amendment to the
current contract, which is effective through July 31, 2001, will cover the costs of a co-instructor while the new
contract covers training costs for the next year. The Foster Pride/Adopt Pride Training Project provides training,
support and encouragement to foster parents and potential foster caregivers.' The program teaches parenting
techniques, behavior management and child education and has been designed to enhance foster and potential
foster caregivers' ability to serve the needs of children in County care and out-of-home placement.
Ms. Contaxis has provided training and coordination for this training program since 1995.
