RESOLUTION HONORING THE 30TH RESOLUTION NO. 2001/378
ANNIVERSARY OF JAPANESE AMERICAN
SERVICES OF THE EAST BAY (JASEB)
WHEREAS, THE JAPANESE AMERICAN SERVICES OF THE EAST BAY had its beginning in
1971 when East Bay Japanese for Action (EBJA) and East Bay Issei Housing (EBIH) in 1976 were formed to
assist the Issei, who were first generation Japanese speaking immigrants. The two organizations merged in
1986 and became Japanese American Services of the East Bay (JASEB), providing Japanese-American
"Nikkei" community a way to address aging in a more comprehensive and effective manner; and
WHEREAS, THE JAPANESE AMERICAN SERVICES OF THE EAST BAY is a non-profit
organization dedicated to providing housing, social services, and continuum care to the Japanese-American
seniors in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties; and
WHEREAS, THE JAPANESE AMERICAN SERVICES OF THE EAST BAY plays an important role
in enabling new immigrant and generations of Japanese-American`seniors to age well and to live within the
community by receiving appropriate assistance as their independence decrease; and
WHEREAS, THE JAPANESE AMERICAN SERVICES OF THE EAST BAY provides bi-lingual and
bi-cultural programs, activities and classes in conjunction with lunch and home-delivered meals; and
WHEREAS, THE JAPANESE AMERICAN SERVICES OF THE EAST BAY assists in identifying
appropriate resources and in consulting on long-term care or retirement planning; and
WHEREAS, THE JAPANESE AMERICAN SERVICES OF THE EAST BAY has partnered with Eden
Housing, Inc. in the Eden Issei Terrace, a 100-unit apartment complex offering federally subsidized rents for
low-income seniors.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does
hereby congratulate the
