The complaints received by the Board were primarily from the Danville area. This is a portion of the CATV system which Televents purchased from Moraga Cablevision in August 1983: Just prior to the purchase, Moraga Cablevision had renewed their franchise agreement with the County and as a condition of the renewal was in the process of. rebuilding and upgrading the system. This process was underway and in some areas completed at the time Televents purchased the system. The area not completed is in and around the City of Danville. The system there is approximately 20 years old and is scheduled for rebuild. Televents has informed the County that they are committed to rebuilding the system in the Danville area and according to the system manager the rebuild should be complete within the. next 12 months. It should be noted that a significant number of the complaints originated from Televents subscribers within the City limits of Danville. The County technically has no jurisdiction over Televents in this area. However, staff has been in contact with the City Manager of Danville and a coordinated approach is being taken to solve the problem with Televents. Danville is currently in the process of adopting a new City CATV Ordinance and subsequent to its adoption will be discussing franchising with Televents or a subsequent bidder. Compounding the problem and adding to the number of complaints about Televents was the inadequate telephone service at the time Televents took over the new area. This problem has been corrected with the addition of 12 new trunk lines. It is the recommendation of the Public Works Director that Public Works Department staff continue monitoring the situation and report back to the Board as required with a status report. IT IS BY THE BOARD ORDERED that the report is ACKNOWLEDGED and the recommendation of the Public Works Director is APPROVED. t hereby es 1 yy that"1*a t"n and Correct eon of Orig. Dept.
