July 11, 2001 - s Costa SUBJECT: University of California, Berkeley College Work-Stud County Program Agreement (County #24-252-1) SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION(S) : Approve and authorize the expenditure of an amount not to exceed $17, 000 for the period from July 1, 2001 through June 30, 2002 , to fund the Department ' s Mental Health Division' s continued participation in U. C. Berkeley' s College Work-Study Program under Agreement #24-252-1 with the University. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The Paid Work-Study Program is Mental Health Realignment funded 50% by the participating agency (County) and 50% by the University of California, Berkeley. Funding for the County' s portion of this Agreement is included in the Department ' s Fiscal Year 2001'2002 Budget and is funded by State and Federal Funds . On May 16 , 2000 , the Board of Supervisors approved a payment limit of $17, 000 for Fiscal Year 2000-2001, and approval of the Fiscal Year 2001-2002 payment limit of $17, 000 willlresult in a total three-year payment of $51, 000 for this third-year Contract which expires on June 30, 2002 . Expenditure of the total payment limit under this Agreement will depend upon the Department ' s utilization of students participating in the program during the term of the Agreement . I BACKGROUND/REASON(S) FOR RECOMMENDATION(S) : The Health Services Department has participated in the College Work-Study Program with the University of California, Berkeley since 1982 . This program, which is jointly funded by the County and the University, provides the County with the services of University students who perform part-time work at very reasonable hourly rates, and provides the students with funds needed to pursue higher education. On May 16 , 2000 , the Board of Supervisors approved funding for the College Work- Study Program Agreement #24-252-1 with the University of California, Berkeley for the period, from July 1, 2000 through June 30, 2001 . The purpose of this Board Order is to provide continued funding for the Program through FY 2001-2002 , so that University students may continue to provide services for the Health Services Department through June 30, 2002 .
