SPECIFIC REQUESTS OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
1. RECOMMENDATION
APPROVE a Fourth Amendment to Lease, commencing July 1, 2000, with Wilfrid F. Holden and
Ruth A. Holden for the premises at 3707 Bissell Avenue, Richmond, for continued occupancy by
the Public Defender, under the terms and conditions more particularly set forth in said Fourth
Amendment to Lease, and AUTHORIZE the Director of General Services to EXECUTE said
Fourth Amendment on behalf of the County.
11. FINANCIAL IMPACT
Payments required are to come from the budget of the General Services Department.
111. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION / BACKGROUND
Provide for continued use of existing space and additional office space, as requested by the
Public Defender.

FOURTH AMENDMENT TO LEASE

1. EFFECTIVE DATE AND PARTIES: Effective on a 04.01 ,
V'JILFRID F. HOLDEN and RUTH A. HOLDEN, hereinafter called "LESSOR", and the
COUNTY OF CONTRA COSTA, a political subdivision of the State of California,
hereinafter called "COUNTY", mutually agree and premise as follows:
2. PURPOSE: The parties desire to amend that lease entered into between LESSOR
and COUNTY, dated July 28, 1987, and amended on October 13, 1987, April 11, 1989,
and December 20, 1994 for 1,895 square feet of office space, in the building commonly
known as 3707 Bissell Avenue, Richmond, California. In consideration of a rent increase
effective July 1, 2000, Lessor shall provide one additional office.
3. AMENDMENT:
A. The following paragraph shall be added to Paragraph 2, Lease of Premises:
Commencing July 1, 2000, the premises shall also include one
additional office in the building, shown on Exhibit "A4" attached hereto and made a part
hereof, containing approximately 180 square feet, for a total of 2,075 square feet.
B. Paragraph 4, Rental, shall be deleted in its entirety and replaced by the
following:
4. RENTAL: COUNTY shall pay to LESSOR as rent for the use of
said premises a rental as shown below payable in advance on the tenth day of each month
during the term of this Lease. Payments shall be mailed to: 3707 Bissell Avenue,
Richmond CA 94805.

5. EFFECT: Except for the Amendments agreed to herein, the Lease of July 28, 1987
as amended on October 13, 1987, April 11, 1989, and.December 20, 1994 remains in full
force and effect.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, the parties have executed this Amendment to Lease as
of the day and year first written hereinabove.
