SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDED ACTION: Per the attached letters and electronic mail, ACCEPT the resignation of Magda Calderon, John Nunes, and Nancy Chinn from the Workforce Investment Board. DECLARE the vacancies on the Workforce Investment Board and DIRECT the Clerk of the Board to apply the Board's policy for filling these vacancies. FINANCIAL IMPACT: No County costs. The local Workforce Investment Board is mandated by the Federal Workforce Investment Act of 1995 (WIA). The costs of advertisement for new appointees will be funded through WIA funds. BACKGROUND: The following WIB members submitted their resignations(attached): Ms. Magda Calderon, State of California Employment Development Department;Mr. John Nunes, business representative;and Nancy Chinn, Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce, economic development representative. Ms. Calderon and Mr. Nunes are resigning due to work commitments. Ms. Chinn is resigning due to a job change. The Workforce Investment Act(WIA) and the State Workforce Investment Board(SWIB) set membership standards for local Workforce Investment Boards (WIBs). In the case of Ms. Calderon,WIA section 121(b) requires the State Economic Development Department be represented on the WIB. Ms. Calderon's replacement will be submitted to the WIB and the Internal Operations Committee for approval in coming weeks, therefore advertisement is not necessary for this position. The Workforce Investment Board works with a broad range of business, education, labor, public agencies and community-based organizations to recruit highly qualified nominees for appointment to the Board. All nominees will meet the strict criteria set forth in the Workforce Investment Act. Nominees will be forwarded to the Internal Operations Committee following WIB endorsement.
