DATE: August 29, 2000
SUBJECT: Contract for Psychological Services
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
1. RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve and authorize the Sheriff-Coroner or designee to execute a contract on behalf of the
County with Managed Health Network, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $58,000 for counseling
services to the Sheriffs Office employees for the period July 1, 2000 through June 30, 2001.
11. FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The cost of this contract will not exceed $58,000.00, which is included in the Sheriffs Office
fiscal year 2000101 budget.
IllBACKGROUND/REASON(S) FOR RECOMMENDATION(S):
The Sheriff and others in the law enforcement field feel that stress counseling can reduce
workers' compensation and disability retirement claims. For approximately fifteen years, this
Office has had contracts to provide emergency psychological counseling to all its employees;
all other major law enforcement agencies have similar contracts. This program has become an
essential part of the overall employee assistance package, and many employees have
received significant help in their personal and professional lives through the program.
