Our Committee interviewed his. Chaumette on August 9, 1999. Ms. Chaumette is very committed to the importance of the arts and serves as the City Manager's liaison on arts and cultural programs. We believe Ms. Chaumette will be an outstanding addition to the Arts and Culture Commission and recommend her appointment for a full four-year term. A recruitment has been undertaken and 24 applications were received. Our Committee reviewed the applications and decided to interview four members for the three vacant seats. We conducted interviews with the four individuals on August 9, 1999. Reauthorize County Library Commission for One Year July 1, 1999 m Jure 30, 2000 SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATIONI a} & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDED ACTION: REAUTHORIZE the Contra Costa County Library Commission for one year for the period July 1, 1999 through Jury 30, 2000. FINANCIAL IMPACT: None BACKGROUND: 1991 - 1993 On March 12, 1991 the Centra Costa County Board of Supervisors, With the agreement of the Contra Costa Mayors' Conference, initially established the Contra Costa County Library Commission for a two year term from March 1 , 1991 through march 14, 1993. Contained Within the original March 15, 1991 Board Order creating the Commission is the process Whereby the Library Commission can be continued for additional periods of time: "...the Commission ...rmay be continued for additional periods of time, With the approval of the Mayors' Conference and the Board of Supervisors." 1993-1995 On February 23, 1993 the Board of Supervisors reauthorized the continuation of the Library Commission for a one year term to Larch 14, 1994. At the same time the Mayor's Conference approved the continuation of the Library Commission for a two year term until March 14, 1995. The Commission members felt it was important to continue the existence of the Commission for an additional year because of the continuing issues facing the County Library.
