Jay Corey, City Manager CONTRA COSTA CO.
City of Brentwood

Dear Mr. Corey:
The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors will consider adopting the enclosed amendment
to the Animal Control Ordinance at its meeting of August 12, 1997, at approximately 10 a.m. The
contract between the County and the cities requires that contracting cities adopt the County Animal
Control Ordinance and any amendments thereto. Therefore, if this amendment is adopted by the Board
of Supervisors your city will also have to adopt the amendment.
This change to the Animal Control Ordinance will increase the penalties for those individuals
convicted of abandoning their animals. This is an issue that appears to have widespread support.
Adoption of this Ordinance amendment should increase the awareness of the public as to their
responsibilities relative to the animals they keep as pets.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
IA---
